If you’re a client interested in using a staffing service or a job seeker that needs help with finding a career, I’m thinking you should give Dawson a call. Why? I’ll tell you…
For the job seeker, we are all about the experience. When you come through the doors of Dawson, you won’t feel like a number or like you’re being herded around like cattle. We offer all of our candidates a bottle of water and a cookie right when you enter our door. Our lobby has comfy couches and a TV -no feeling like you’re in the dreaded waiting room of doctor’s office here! Dawson doesn’t ask you to come back a million times and then send you somewhere offsite for a drug screen. While you’re here you will: Interview with a recruiter, complete computer testing, drug screen, film your video interview and complete a background check – we are a one stop shop! When you leave Dawson, you won’t be forgotten. Our recruiters are available via phone, email, cell and fax with 24/7 availability.
For the client, we get to...

With the fall weather at bat and winter on deck, the amount of “No Call, No Shows” you have as a recruiter gets higher and higher. It seems crazy to take weather into account for job seekers, but it’s true!
Walk with me: The first cloudy/cooler day of fall, you will have no shows. When it’s snowing, your candidate will call you that morning to say they will reschedule once they can get their car out of the driveway, and never call you back. On the first beautiful day of spring, your 10am will reschedule for later that day.
Color me crazy, but part of it (not nearly all) has to do with the weather! So, what’s a recruiter to do? Look at the weather forecast for the week and go from there? Schedule interviews for the days when the weather is mediocre in hopes that your entire day will show up?
I ask this question to other recruiters: What do you do to limit your “No Call, No Shows”?

Well, recruiters, we have made it to another Friday and hopefully for some of you, another pay day. No doubt your week was full of phone calls, voicemails, making more phone calls, returning emails, interviewing and more phone calls! The life of a recruiter is not an easy one and cannot be understood by anyone else, other than another recruiter. Whenever I have bad day and try to describe to someone why recruiting is tough…I try to explain and people just don't get it! Here are my thoughts/explanations in writing.
Our product is a human being. We cannot make the deal, pack it and ship it…it has to be the perfect fit for both sides of the contract. Everything can be signed, sealed and delivered, but our candidate can turn around and say “Actually, I am going to stay where I am” or “I would prefer more money, if not I cannot take the position.” It happens more than we would like!
The hours upon hours that go into finding just one candidate is insane…literally. You will probably work more hours...

I was personally asked several questions about interviewing this week that I assumed everyone knew the answer to…
Q: What color nail polish should I wear?
A: A very subtle pink or a nude color.
Q: Should I write Thank You notes to everyone I talked to, or just the people who gave me their business cards?
A: With the assumption that you don’t have the contact information of those who didn’t give you business cards, the people who gave you their info are enough!
Q: What kind of stationary should I use to write my Thank You notes?
A: I would make it your basic stationary with “Thank You” on the inside or outside of the card. Personally more “fluffy” stationary shouldn’t be used for a professional transaction.
Q: Should I follow up next week to check my status?
A: Even after a Thank You note, I always find is wise to shoot over and email saying thank you, again, and stating your high interest in the position. From there,...

With the summer months upon us, it is hard to catch people when they are actually in the office. While this can be frustrating, don’t let that slow down your job search and staying connected with your recruiter!
Make sure to not only call, but email your recruiter as well. While they may not be answering phone calls or emails at that time, they will still see your efforts and make sure to sit down and reply to you when they return to their desk. More often than not, you will get a “reply” stating who you can contact for immediate assistance. If you’re waiting on feedback or have a question, reach out to that “for immediate assistance” person; effort and follow up is recognized and then shared!
The best thing to do is to stay on the minds of those who can suggest you for positions!

Here is another inside scoop into the world of staffing agencies via Dawson.
It is common that job seekers will “throw in the towel” and pick back up with their job search after the holiday celebrations. Well, as I cannot encourage ever giving up on your job search, I can suggest that you pay attention to those job boards over the long weekend and get on top of calling your recruiter first thing Tuesday morning.
Hiring managers will come back in full force and you want to be front and center with your resume so your recruiter can submit you for a position! A recruiter’s job at Dawson is never done; finding the perfect match between a job seeker and a client is a full-time gig, so be sure you don’t give up on your search!

The long Holiday weekend is upon us and some people make the mistake of taking a vacation from their job search. Hiring managers may be able to take an extra day out of the office, but this means recruiters are going to be in full swing and feeling the heat to fill positions when they return to the office. Staffing Agencies don’t sleep (it’s a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week commitment – take it from me!) and looking for the perfect candidate for a client does not stop…ever.
Take a vacation, but not too long of a break from your job search. Stay on top of your online research, check in first thing with your recruiter and have that resume ready!
Dawson wishes all of you a great Memorial Day weekend!

Here is some inside information for you – did you know that recruiters will have their best ads up on job search boards (CareerBuilder, Craigslist & Monster) on weekends when it’s going to rain? Yup, bad weather = more time inside, on your computer and hopefully applying for a job that will lead you to their recruiting agency.
Also, in the spring and summer months, job seekers will “no call, no show” for an interview more than any other time of the year. You might ask “who would purposely miss a job interview in this economy right now?” And the answer to your question is “it happens more than you can imagine.”
What did we learn? Get after those jobs on a rainy day and ALWAYS show up for your interviews (even though you would rather be at the pool – trust me, your recruiter probably does too, but they show up every day because they are dedicated to finding you a...
