INTERVIEWING 101

Polish Your Social Media Profiles

Hiring managers often review applicants’ social media accounts, and in some cases, what is on there can be a decisive factor when making a hiring decision.

You’ll want to make sure your profiles are looking as sharp and professional as you are.

Polish Your Profiles:

All Social Accounts

  • Remove any and all inappropriate photos and posts from your profiles.
If you have anything posted that
    is questionable or unprofessional,
    delete it.

*PRO TIP: If your social media accounts are not already set to private, make that change ASAP. Check your privacy settings so you know who is viewing content that involves you.

  • Deactivate any old social media accounts. Even if you haven’t been active on them in years, it is best to just delete them altogether.
  • When adding new photos to your social media accounts, post with caution.
  • Google yourself to ensure that you have removed anything you would not want a hiring manager to see.

Level-Up Your LinkedIn:

Make sure your profile is ready for networking action.

Optimize Your Profile with Photos.

Your profile picture is the first impression that you convey to connections. It should be a recent, professional, and recognizable photo of yourself. Use your background photo as an opportunity to communicate more about who you are and what you do.

Make it More than a Resume.

Make your headline count! Uniquely demonstrate your expertise or what you’re known for and give recruiters a reason to view your profile. Use your summary to strengthen your first impression – get specific with facts and figures and highlight your greatest accomplishments relevant to the job you want.

Work Keywords, Ditch the Buzzwords

(...yes, there's a difference).

Use keywords included in the descriptions of the jobs you want. Avoid buzzwords that don’t mean anything by themselves or if they’re a given.

URLikely to Stand Out

with a Custom URL.

Create a custom URL instead of the string of numbers that LinkedIn assigns. Choose something that’s easy to remember, like your name and initials, and add it to your resume. This will help with search rankings as well.

Engage and Stay Active.

Keep your contact information and location up to date. Post and share relevant content, join groups, connect, comment, and respond to messages.
